Current events make it clear how unimportant my little book is.
Several days ago the House voted down a bill meant to right the economy. Last night the Senate did pass a bill, and now the bill will go back to the House.
Right now, a lot of people are struggling, losing jobs, homes, pensions or health care. People are wondering what the future holds. And yet somehow this nation has always made it through. Somehow, despite our struggles, we help each other and do what is best for the nation. Somehow, we find the best when we face the worst.
The Body in the Record Room is the story of a small handful of people who do the same thing in the face of terrible odds. I believe we are capable of rising above ourselves. I want to write about people who do that, and I want to live in the belief that we can and will do that.
My little book is just that, a little book written to say something positive in what can sometimes be a terrible and negative world. But there is a larger stage too, and right now, we are all living on that larger stage in a very special way. My prayer is that we will work together, support one another, have the courage to do what is right in the face of struggle.
That's all God could expect of us in our personal struggles and in our struggles as a nation.
