Freudian Slip

Saturday, June 20, 2009

Erica Orloff's Freudian Slip is the story of soul mates. Soul mates are two people in love who bring out the best in each other. They have the kind of relationship all committed people long to have, but few achieve.

The problem is, Julian, the shock jock, is in a coma. He has become a disembodied spirit assigned to help Kate through a difficult time.

There is no tangibility in a love affair between a human and a spirit.

As you can surely tell, Freudian Slip is neither a mystery, nor the kind of book I usually read. I picked it up because Erica Orloff wrote it. So far, I've liked everything I've read that she has written.

This book came through for me. It embodied love and the kind of permanent things worth valuing in the otherwise cynical world of pornographic sex. It portrayed soul mates in a world where sexual relationships are often used to get ahead.

It may not be the kind of book most of the few people who read this blog would read, but some might read it and love it. I did.

This sounds like a breath of fresh air around now.

The book is plenty racy, but the soul mate relationship is what is held up in the end. I found that refreshing.
