THE SCENT OF LILACS by Doug Allyn

A short comment about a story in the most recent EQMM:

"The Scent of Lilacs" is a beautiful and incredibly tragic story about a time in Missouri near the close of the Civil War.

This story had special meaning for me.  I grew up in a Missouri border town burned as a part of the Jayhawker-Bushwacker skirmishes on the Missouri-Kansas border. Where I came from, those times are not forgotten.

Joe, please tell me you weren't there for the skirmish. Just kidding but I will check out the story.

Mary,
Not there, but fewer than 100 years behind.

The story is worth checking out. Also, Dave Zeltserman's new Julius Katz story is a hoot and a howl.

I'm sure there are others. I'm just reading it all now.
