MUCKRAKING MYSTERY NOVELS

February 5, 2013

A Note from Joe--

This morning I ran across a BBC report about the Magdalene Laundries. I couldn't help but think of Ken Bruen's great book The Magdalene Martyrs.

That book was the first I had heard about the Irish Magdalene Laundries, places of great child abuse.

Books, even books like mysteries, can express indignation. They can teach history. And they can rail against injustices.

I thank God for mystery novels, especially truly great ones like Ken Bruen's The Magdalene Martyrs.
