I just finished reading Berkeley Breathed's Pete and Pickles. What a wonderful story! The protagonist makes mistakes. There are risks and dangers, along with loneliness and love.
Also, the little story of how the book came on be (on the back flap) is a blessing in itself.
I came to appreciate Berkeley Breathed through my wife. She read Opus every Sunday for years. And she was very sad when Opus died.
There are all kinds of ways of expressing emotion. Breathed's drawings do that in a special way. If you haven't read Pete and Pickles go to the children's section of your local library, or better yet, order yourself a copy today. Read it yourself and then give your copy to your favorite child (or maybe to your favorite adult who is still a child at heart).
PS The actual title Pete and Pickles has an ampersand instead of the word "and," but these posts don't allow ampersands. I suppose they are used in the underlying code.
